The Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachan and his son tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as the virus is spreading unprecedentedly in the country.
“I have tested COVID positive … shifted to hospital … hospital informing authorities … family and staff undergone tests, results awaited,” the 77-year-old veteran Indian actor said in a Twitter post.
He also added “All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested!”
Bachchan’s 44-year-old son, also a Bollywood actor, tweeted moments later, stating that he has also contracted the novel coronavirus.
“Earlier today both my father and I tested positive for COVID 19. Both of us having mild symptoms have been admitted to hospital. We have informed all the required authorities and our family and staff are all being tested. I request all to stay calm and not panic. Thank you. 🙏🏽,” Abishek Bacchan said in a Twitter post.
According to reports, the two Bollywood actors were admitted to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, India’s financial and entertainment hub.
This comes as the novel coronavirus is rapidly spreading across India with the authorities in the country recording 27,114 positive cases in the past 24 hours, making it the nation with the third-biggest outbreak behind the United States and Brazil.
