As a part of the prisoner swap process, the Taliban freed 14 prisoners of the Afghan government’s prisoners from its jails in Logar, Nangarhar and Nuristan, tweeted Suhail Shaheen, a political spokesperson for the armed group.

This has pushed the total number of prisoners released by the Taliban to more than 500 across the country.

Under a peace agreement signed between the United States and the Taliban on late February.

The U.S.-Taliban agreement calls for the release of up to 5,000 jailed Taliban prisoners who are set to be released in exchange for up to 1,000 Afghan government captives.
