The United States Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad met with Pakistani officials Monday, and held a dialogue session on the current Afghan peace process.
Khalilzad spoke to General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Pakistani Chief of Staff, as they discussed about the ongoing Afghan peace process.
Pakistan’s Army spokesperson Iftikhar Babar tweeted both sides have discussed Afghan peace, regional security, and other relevant issues during the meeting.
The trip is reportedly established based on a time sensitivity and complex Taliban and Afghan government positions to acquire the Pakistani government by exerting influence over the Taliban to continue peace talks.
This comes at a time, when Intra-Afghan negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban began on Friday, September 12 in Doha, Qatar.
Zalmay Khalilzad is expected to meet India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in Delhi today.
